SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU forward Kyra Ranvek and UNCG goalkeeper Aiyanah Tyler-Cooper have been named the Southern Conference women’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from Sept. 7-13.
Ranvek, a sophomore, scored both goals in ETSU’s 2-1 win at Middle Tennessee on Friday, Sept. 10. The first, her first collegiate goal, came in the 44
th minute and put the Bucs ahead 1-0. Her second goal, the game-winner scored in the 65
th minute, came on a cross from Momoko Horiuchi from 6 yards out. Ranvek, who played 46 minutes off the bench in the win, is the first Buc since 2019 to score two or more goals in a game. The native of Knoxville, Tennessee, came off the bench and played 44 minutes in a 1-1 draw at Lipscomb on Sunday, Sept. 12.
Tyler-Cooper, a senior, played all 220 minutes in goal for the Spartans as UNCG played to a pair of scoreless draws. On Thursday, the native of Charlottesville, Virginia, faced 21 shots and recorded nine saves in a 0-0 bout against James Madison. Three days later, Tyler-Cooper faced 19 shots and tallied six saves in a scoreless contest against Campbell. The consecutive shutouts, her third and fourth of the year, were Tyler-Cooper’s 21
st and 22
nd of her career, moving her up to third all-time in UNCG’s record book.
After four consecutive road games, ETSU (3-1-1) hosts Tennessee Tech on Friday, Sept. 17, in the Bucs’ nonconference finale before opening SoCon play at home against The Citadel (6-2) on Sept. 24. UNCG (1-2-4) hits the road after three straight home games, facing Liberty on Sunday, Sept. 19, in the Spartans’ nonconference finale. UNCG also opens league action on Sept. 24, playing at Chattanooga (3-5).
