SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After earning the first SoCon Offensive Player of the Week award for the 2021 volleyball campaign, Meghan Yaffa secures her second honor this week and has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition to this point in the fall. The selection is made by the conference office.
Yaffa opened the 2021 season with three stellar performances at the FAU Invite, where she tallied career highs in kills in matches against North Florida and Stony Brook, earning her a spot on the FAU Invite All-Tournament Team. The outside hitter recorded 21 kills in a 3-2 loss against the Ospreys, and added two assists, three aces, seven digs and two block assists, in addition to hitting .375 in the match. She accumulated 24 kills in the Terriers’ 3-2 win over the Seawolves, hitting an impressive .415 with an ace, four digs, and two blocks.
In the tournament’s finale against Florida Atlantic, the Boca Raton, Fla. native continued to shine and posted another match with double-digit kills, collecting 10, while adding one assist, three aces, five digs and a block in the 3-1 loss. Yaffa currently leads the Southern Conference in total kills (55), seventh among the NCAA, and she currently holds the ninth-place spot in the NCAA for total points (65.0).
The redshirt junior retains a 3.70 grade point average and is double majoring in Biology and Spanish.
