UR's Lanchbury taken second in NLL Entry Draft

Four SoCon players selected overall

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Richmond attackman Ryan Lanchbury was the No. 2 overall pick in the National Lacrosse League Entry Draft on Saturday, pacing four Southern Conference players selected.
 
Lanchbury, the reigning SoCon Offensive Player of the Year, was picked by the Georgia Swarm, becoming the first Richmond player ever selected in the NLL draft. Lanchbury recently announced he will return for his sixth year (COVID-19 year) with the Spiders in 2022 and will be eligible to play for the Swarm starting in the 2022-23 season.
 
High Point attackman Asher Nolting, a two-time SoCon Offensive Player of the Year, was taken with the sixth pick of the second round, as the Colorado Mammoth selected the Greenwood Village, Colorado, native with the 22nd overall pick.
 
The Halifax Thunderbirds selected a pair of Jacksonville Dolphins to cap the SoCon selections Saturday, taking midfielder Jeremy Winston in the fifth round with the 74th overall pick and defenseman Colin Hinton in the sixth round with the 88th overall pick.
 
The 2021-22 NLL season is scheduled to open on Dec. 3.
