SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Five Southern Conference baseball student-athletes were taken in the MLB Draft on Tuesday, the final day of the draft.
 
UNCG’s Corey Rosier and Brendan Collins, Samford’s Samuel Strickland, Western Carolina’s Justice Bigbie and Wofford’s Hayes Heinecke were all selected between the 12th and 19th rounds.
 
Rosier was the first SoCon player off the board on Tuesday, as he was selected in the 12th round with the 354th overall pick by the Seattle Mariners. Wofford outfielder Colin Davis, the 2021 SoCon Player of the Year, was selected in the seventh round by the Mariners on Monday.
 
Wofford left-handed pitcher Heinecke, the 2019 SoCon Freshman of the Year and this season's Preseason Pitcher of the Year, was picked by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 13th round with the 391st overall selection.
 
UNCG right-hander Collins was next to go, as the Washington Nationals took him in the 17th round with the 503rd overall pick.
 
The Detroit Tigers selected Western Carolina’s Bigbie, the 2019 SoCon Player of the Year, in the 19th round with the 555th overall pick, while Samford’s Strickland was taken later in the round with the 577th overall pick by the Atlanta Braves.
