SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's Soccer Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes soccer honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and the NAIA.
 
Four Southern Conference men’s soccer players were honored on the CoSIDA Academic All-District teams. ETSU’s Jordan Broadwater and UNCG’s Nelson Oceano were selected to District Three, which is comprised of Division I programs in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, while Mercer’s Leo Toledo Jr. and Trevor Martineau were honored in District Four, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico and South Carolina. 
 
Broadwater earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, receiving his degree in chemistry earlier this spring. Broadwater becomes the first player in the program’s history to receive a nomination to the Academic All-District Team. The ETSU graduate finished his collegiate career with 27 appearances, making seven starts. Broadwater scored his lone goal in the Blue and Gold in his collegiate debut against VMI in 2018, finishing with a goal and an assist on his career.
 
Oceano earned his degree in Interior Architecture last month and had a 3.41 grade point average. He was named the SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2017 and earned spots on the All-SoCon Second Team in 2017 and 2019. As a junior, Oceano had six assists on the year, which tied for a team-high and tied for fourth in the conference.
 
Martineau boasts a 3.35 grade point average as a Mechanical Engineering major, while Toledo Jr. posted a 3.66 GPA while pursuing his Master's in Higher Education Leadership after already completing his MBA and collected his Bachelor's in Marketing.
 
Martineau has compiled 67 points on 25 goals and 17 assists in 49 games wearing the Black and Orange. He currently ranks fifth in career assists, sixth in total points and seventh in goals scored.
 
Toledo Jr. has accumulated 42 points on 11 goals and 20 assists in 72 games at Mercer. He currently ranks third in program history in career assists. Throughout his time as a Bear, Toledo Jr. has led the squad to four SoCon titles and three NCAA Tournament appearances and was one of 30 players in the country to be named a candidate for the Senior CLASS Award.
 
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early July.
