SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel outfielder Jeffery Brown and VMI right-handed pitcher Jacob Menders have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games from May 10-16. The selections are made by the league office.
 
Brown recorded three multi-hit games and hit .556 (10-for-18) on the week, including 7-for-10 in the doubleheader against Mercer on Saturday to earn his first player of the week honor of the season. In the series finale against the Bears, Brown went 4-for-5 with three RBIs. He delivered a two-run single in the top of the ninth to tie the game, then scored the game-winning run two batters later. Brown is tied for the third-most hits (65) in the conference this season with only one regular-season league series remaining. 
 
The Citadel’s midweek game against College of Charleston on Tuesday, May 18, has a 6 p.m. opening pitch. The Bulldogs (12-35, 4-22 SoCon) will host Western Carolina (23-19, 11-11) on Friday, May 21, at 5 p.m. ET, with the doubleheader schedule for Saturday, May 22, at 1 p.m.
 
Menders pitched his second complete game of the season in VMI’s 3-1 win over ETSU in his final home game as a Keydet on Senior Day. In nine innings, he allowed just five hits and two walks and struck out four batters to improve to a 5-3 record. He also recorded the last out Tuesday night in a 9-5 win over Norfolk State, posting a 0.96 ERA on the week.
 
VMI (16-28, 11-16) will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, to play UNCG (26-23, 11-16) on Thursday, May 20. The doubleheader begins on Friday, May 21, at 1 p.m.
