Five Furman Players Earn United Coaches All-Southeast Region Accolades

Paladins set a new school and Southern Conference standard with five players earning honors

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Furman women’s soccer set a new school and Southern Conference standard with five players earning United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region honors, it was announced on Tuesday.
 
Isabella Gutierrez became the first Paladin to earn first team accolades since 2015, while Addison Corn, Ellie Laxer and Nieva Gaither garnered second team citations and Jasmine Greene received third team honors.
 
A Statesboro, Ga., native, Gutierrez tallied four goals and three assists in 11 matches this season en route to earning SoCon Player of the Year and first team All-SoCon laurels. The junior netted goals in league victories over The Citadel, VMI, UNCG and Western Carolina.
 
Corn, a product of Marietta, Ga., compiled an outstanding freshman campaign. The SoCon All-Freshman choice went 4-1-1 in goal with a 0.87 goals against average and led the Paladins to five shutouts. Corn stopped a career-high 12 shots to help Furman to a 2-1 victory over Samford in the SoCon Championship Match.
 
Laxer, one of just two seniors on Furman’s squad, tallied a goal and added three assists, while starting all 11 matches in the Paladins’ midfield. The Tampa, Fla., product earned All-SoCon Tournament honors after helping Furman claim its seventh SoCon Tournament crown in program history.
 
A native of Lilburn, Ga., Gaither earned second team all-southeast honors after being named SoCon Freshman of the Year. The midfielder scored two goals and added a team-high six assists en route to second team All-SoCon and SoCon All-Freshman scrolls.
 
Greene scored three goals and totaled two assists while starting all 11 matches as a sophomore. The first team All-SoCon selection was named All-SoCon Tournament and the tournament’s most outstanding player after scoring the match-winning goal in the league finals with 17 seconds left in double overtime.
 
Furman’s five all-region selections helped the Paladins to an 8-1-2 overall record, 6-0-2 league mark, SoCon Tournament title and the school’s eighth NCAA Tournament berth. The Paladins climbed to as high as No. 29 in the College Soccer News Top 30 and No. 9 in the NCAA RPI.
 
The 2021 Paladins are expected to return 10 starters from this season’s record-setting team.
