SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Titus Moore and The Citadel’s Sam Blumer have been named the Southern Conference men’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively, while Mercer’s Cherrish Wright and Wofford’s Georgia McDevitt have been named the women’s outdoor track and field athletes of the week, respectively.
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from March 31 to April 6.
Samford’s Moore won the 110-meter hurdles at the UAB Spring Invite in Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday, turning in a school-record time of 13.96 seconds to break his own 2019 mark by 0.04 seconds. The junior from Macon, Georgia, leads the SoCon in the event this season with that time, which ranks 32
nd on the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying List and 17
th in the NCAA East Region.
The Citadel’s Blumer competed at the VertKlasse Meeting in High Point, North Carolina, on Friday, tying for fifth in the pole vault with a height of 4.71 meters, his outdoor season best. The senior from Greenville, South Carolina, leads the SoCon this season with that mark, which ranks 71
st in the NCAA East Region.
Mercer’s Wright claimed a pair of wins at the Embry Riddle Spikes Classic in Daytona Beach, Florida, on Saturday. The senior from Apopka, Florida, started her day with a win the 4x100-meter relay, running the third leg as the Bears turned in a time of 48.83 seconds. Shortly thereafter, Wright broke her own school record with a time of 13.92 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles. Her new mark leads the SoCon this season and ranks 51
st in the NCAA East Region.
Wofford’s McDevitt won the long jump at High Point’s VertKlasse Meeting on Friday, turning in a school-record leap of 6.04 meters, which leads the SoCon this season and ranks 61
st on the NCAA Division I Outdoor Qualifying list and 26
th in the NCAA East Region. The freshman from Maryville, Tennessee, also competed in a pair of events on the track, running the anchor leg of the Terriers’ winning 4x100-meter relay, which finished in a SoCon-leading 46.26 seconds, and taking fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.27 seconds.
