SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Tarik Pannholzer and UNCG’s Niclas Wild have been named the Southern Conference men’s soccer offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all competition from March 30 through April 5.
 
In a 7-0 win against VMI on March 30, Pannholzer scored three goals and assisted on another as the Bucs set a program record for goals scored. The freshman from Flensburg, Germany, became only the second Buccaneer in program history to record a hat trick, joining Fletcher Ekern’s accomplishment achieved in October 2016 against UNCG. His three goals, seven points and seven shots on target in the match all tied NCAA single-game highs on the year, and he’s one of only 17 Division I players to record three goals a hat trick this season. Pannholzer also added five shots to his tally in the draw against UNCG, providing the main threat on the Spartan goal in the draw.
 
Wild played a major role in UNCG’s pair of shutouts against Wofford and ETSU last week, tallying eight saves and a perfect 1.000 save percentage in 200 minutes of action. The freshman goalie kept the Terriers off the scoreboard on Tuesday with five saves. On Saturday against ETSU, Wild posted his third clean sheet in his last four outings and made three saves in the scoreless draw. Wild finished the regular season with a 0.82 goals against average and a .774 save percentage, which both rank third in the conference.
 
ETSU (3-4-3, 3-1-2 SoCon) and UNCG (7-2-2, 3-1-2) will meet again in Greensboro, North Carolina, for a rematch of the season finale on Saturday, April 10, at 6 p.m. ET in the 2020-21 SoCon Championship semifinal round. The winner will advance to the championship final, which is scheduled for Friday, April 16, or Saturday, April 17, at the highest remaining seed.
