SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford outfielder Colin Davis and Samford right-handed pitcher Jesse McCord have been named the Southern Conference player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for all games from March 29 through April 4. The selections are made by the league office.

Davis led Wofford with eight hits, eight RBIs and a .533 batting average in its four games last week. The senior opened the week with a double at Davidson on March 30 that drove in two runs in the Terriers' 7-6 loss. In the opening game against division rival Western Carolina on Friday, he had a two-run homer in the third inning that paced the team to its series-opening win against the Catamounts. On Saturday, he was 3-of-4 with two RBIs in game one of the doubleheader and closed out the series with a two-run homer in the fifth inning, along with a double and a single.

Wofford (16-11, 5-4 SoCon) will travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, on Saturday, April 10, for its weekend series against ETSU (15-11, 5-4). The opening pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m., with the doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 11.

Samford’s McCord gave up no earned runs over 6 innings of work in game two of Friday’s doubleheader sweep of VMI. He struck out a season-high 10 batters while allowing just one walk to earn the 7-6 win for Samford. McCord leads the Bulldogs on the mound with 48 strikeouts, which ranks second in the conference.

Samford (17-11, 8-1) will host Troy for the second time this season on Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. ET, before it hosts The Citadel (8-15, 1-7) this weekend.
