SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Dimitri Badra has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 29-April 4, the conference office announced Monday. The honor is his fourth of the season.
Badra went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles on the week as the Bucs beat UNC Asheville, 5-2, on Tuesday, March 30, and downed Chattanooga, 5-2, three days later. The redshirt sophomore is ranked No. 57 by the ITA.
In singles play, the native of Maracay, Venezuela, ranked made quick work of UNC Asheville’s top player, winning 6-1, 6-2. Against Chattanooga, he came from behind to defeat the Mocs’ top player, Tomas Rodriguez, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles play, Badra and his partner, Miguel Este, cruised to a 6-1 win against UNC Asheville’s pair and won the lone doubles match against Chattanooga, 6-4.
ETSU (8-6, 5-0 SoCon) hosts The Citadel (5-14, 0-4) on Friday, April 9, and play at Elon in a nonconference tilt two days later.
