SoCon weekly men’s lacrosse honors announced

Richmond’s Lanchbury, Jacksonville’s Kapp claim weekly honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Richmond attackman Ryan Lanchbury and Jacksonville faceoff specialist Nathan Kapp have been named the Southern Conference men’s lacrosse offensive and defensive players of the week, respectively, for all games April 20-26. The awards are selected by the league office.

Lanchbury matched the SoCon single-game record he set earlier this season with 12 points in the Spiders’ 21-8 win at Mercer on Sunday. The senior from Burlington, Ontario, Canada, scored five goals and assisted on seven others as Richmond clinched at least a share of the regular-season SoCon title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SoCon Men’s Lacrosse Championship. Lanchbury, who had a hand in seven of the Spiders’ first eight goals on the day, scored a season-best two man-up goals. He ranks second in the league with 5.50 points per game, a number that jumps to a league-best 8.00 in SoCon games. The weekly honor is Lanchbury’s third this season and the fifth of his career, tying him for third in SoCon history.

Kapp, a redshirt freshman, earned his second weekly honor of the season by going 16-for-19 on faceoffs and scooping up eight ground balls in Jacksonville’s 8-7 win over Bellarmine on Saturday. The Middleton, Wisconsin, native posted his second-best faceoff winning percentage of the season (.842) to push his seasonal mark to .577, the third-best mark in the league, and his SoCon-only mark to .683, good for second. Kapp, whose eight ground balls were also his second-most of the season, helped the Dolphins hold their fifth opponent in 12 tries this season to single-digit goals.

Fifteenth-ranked Richmond (6-4, 5-0 SoCon) will look to complete an undefeated run through league play when it hosts Air Force (3-8, 2-3) on Saturday at noon Eastern. Jacksonville (7-5, 4-1), which clinched a spot in the SoCon tournament with its win over Bellarmine, will battle at High Point (5-5, 4-1) on Saturday at noon Eastern to see which of the squads will be the No. 2 seed and which will be the No. 3.

Other offensive nominees: Brayden Mayea (High Point), Jack Dolan (Jacksonville) and Sean Goldsmith (Mercer).

Other defensive nominees: Eric Rubak (Bellarmine), Clayton Krol (High Point), Ashton Wood (Mercer) and Jacob Griffin (Richmond).
