Commish Chat is a series of one-on-one interviews between Southern Conference Commissioner Jim Schaus and various student-athletes, coaches, administrators, media members and more as they discuss SoCon athletics and issues that affect college athletics on a broader scale.

Schaus's guest for Episode 22 is VMI football coach Scott Wachenheim, who led VMI to a 6-2 record, its first SoCon title since 1977, its first winning record since 1981 and its first-ever FCS playoffs appearance. Wachenheim was named the SoCon Coach of the Year, the  Bobby Ross Coach of the Year for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the AFCA Region 2 Coach of the Year and is a finalist for the Stats Perform Eddie Robinson Award, which goes annually to the national coach of the year.

Schaus and Wachenheim discuss what it means for VMI to win the SoCon championship and reach the postseason; what were the keys to the Keydets' success; the season-ending injury to SoCon Preseason Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Reece Udinski and how redshirt freshman Seth Morgan stepped in to start the rest of the season; and what a special place VMI is.
