Strong singles play leads Wofford past Coastal Carolina

Terriers win four of five singles matches in 4-3 win

CONWAY, S.C. – The Wofford men’s tennis team made an enormous comeback in singles play to come away with a win over Coastal Carolina, 4-3. The Terriers won four of the last five singles matches to snatch a win in their final non-conference match of the season.

Wofford went down early in the match losing the doubles point, despite some close scores. Omar Williams and Alex Horn stayed tough in a 6-3 defeat to their #2 pairing opponents. Will Fullett and Ashe Ray finished in match #3 with a close 7-6 loss, while Javi Casasolas and Callum Rendle went unfinished as the score was deadlocked 6-6.

The Terriers stumbled out of the gates to begin singles, but Diego Losada was able to snag a point winning both sets 7-5 to make it a 2-1 match score in favor of Coastal Carolina. The Chanticleers earned another point, but it wasn’t long until Wofford tied the score with wins coming from Fullett and Ray. Fullett bounced back from a first set defeat to win the next two, 7-5, 6-2. Ray also fell in set one, but took two and three with a 6-0, 6-3 win, respectively. Williams finished off the match with a dominating third set victory to give Wofford the win. He took the first set 6-2 before losing the second, but a 6-0 third set win gave him and his team a happy ride home.
