SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Dimitri Badra has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played April 5-11, the conference office announced Monday. The honor is his fifth of the season, tying the league record for most in a season, set by teammate Frazier Rengifo in 2019.
 
Badra went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 3 doubles on the week as the Bucs beat The Citadel, 7-0, on Friday, April 9, and downed Elon, 5-2, two days later, pushing their win streak to six matches. The redshirt sophomore is ranked No. 57 by the ITA.
 
In singles play, the native of Maracay, Venezuela, downed The Citadel’s Will Graham, 6-3, 6-2, to clinch the victory. Against Elon, he recorded his second straight-set win of the week, defeating Elon’s top player, Akrah El Sallaly, 6-3, 6-1.
 
In doubles play, Badra and his partner, Miguel Este, cruised to a 6-1 win against The Citadel’s pair and won 6-3 against Elon’s duo.
 
ETSU (10-6, 6-0 SoCon) plays Old Dominion in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Wednesday, April 14, and concludes conference play and the regular season on Sunday, April 18, against Samford (12-6, 5-0).
