?• Tenth-ranked VMI can clinch its first Southern Conference title since 1977 and its first-ever FCS playoff berth with a win over ETSU on Saturday, while No. 17/21 Furman visits Mercer and Wofford hosts The Citadel in the Ingles SoCon Game of the Week.

• Chattanooga announced Monday that it had opted out of the remainder of the season. The Mocs’ final three games will be considered no-contests.

• Off to its best start since 1960 at 5-0, VMI has clinched its first winning season since 1981, achieved its highest-ever national ranking and is vying for its eighth SoCon title. A win Saturday would secure the Keydets’ first outright title since 1974.

• Wide receiver Jakob Herres had 15 catches for 207 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner with 35 seconds left, as VMI remained undefeated with a 36-31 win at Wofford last week. He earned Stats Perform FCS National Offensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts. Starting in place of injured quarterback Reece Udinski, who is out for the rest of the season, redshirt freshman Seth Morgan was impressive in his first career start, throwing for 375 yards and four TDs on 25-of-34 passing. He also ran for 76 yards, with his 451 yards of total offense good for the second-most in a game in program history.

• ETSU, receiving votes in both the AFCA and Stats Perform national polls, moved to 3-1 in league play with its 24-17 win over Western Carolina last week. Quay Holmes ran for 197 yards and two scores, while Jacob Saylors rushed for 136 yards on just 15 carries.

• Coming off its bye week, Furman was last in action on March 20 when it dropped a 20-18 decision to then-No. 10/11 Chattanooga. Paladin head coach Clay Hendrix will be facing his former offensive coordinator, Mercer first-year head coach Drew Cronic, for the first time. Furman, which managed just 49 rushing yards against the Mocs two weeks ago, ran for 410 in last season’s win over Mercer, in which the Paladins piled up 600 yards of total offense.

• Mercer enters Saturday’s game looking to knock off its second straight ranked opponent after handing then-No. 10/9 Chattanooga a 35-28 loss last week. Brandon Marshall rushed for 76 yards and two TDs and QB Carter Peevy was an efficient 13-for-17 for 167 yards and a score in the win over the Mocs.

• Wofford dropped its third straight contest and its second straight one-possession game when it fell 36-31 to then-No. 13/14 VMI last weekend. The Terriers, who had relinquished a 10-point first-half lead, went ahead 31-30 on Landon Parker’s 75-yard touchdown catch with 1:43 to go, only to see the Keydets rally one last time for the win.

• The Citadel had lost three straight one-possession games before last week’s 55-7 setback to Samford. Wide receiver Raleigh Webb caught his 19th career touchdown against Samford and is second on the school’s career touchdown receptions list behind only Andre Roberts. Quarterback Darique Hampton rushed for a career-high 98 yards in his first start as a Bulldog.

• The Citadel (seventh, 230.4) and Wofford (10th, 223.5) are in the top 10 in the FCS in rushing offense.

• Western Carolina, which had been slated to face Chattanooga this Saturday, now wraps its season at home against Wofford on April 10.
