SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Jasmine Palmer and the Spartans’ Morgan Scott have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for games played March 1-7, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Palmer hit .556 with five hits and five RBIs as UNCG went 3-0 on the week and pushed its win streak to seven games. The redshirt junior went 2-for-2 from the plate with a pair of RBIs in UNCG’s 9-0 five-inning win over UNCW on March 5. In the second game of the doubleheader later that afternoon, the Asheville, North Carolina, native was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored. One of her hits, a three-run home run in the fifth inning, sparked an eight-run inning and helped UNCG rally from a five-run deficit en route to a 13-8 win over the Seahawks. Palmer was 1-for-4 in the final game of the series on Saturday as the Spartans won 9-3.   
 
Scott, a sophomore, saw action in two of UNCG’s three wins. The native of Irmo, South Carolina, amassed an impressive 0.78 ERA and went 2-0 on the weekend. She pitched five innings in the first game of the series against UNCW, allowing just two hits and a walk while striking out four in the 9-0 shutout for the Spartans. Scott threw four innings in the series finale, striking out eight and allowing just one hit, one walk and one earned run in the 9-3 victory.
 
UNCG (7-4) plays at Elon on Wednesday, March 10, and hosts College of Charleston in a three-game series on Friday and Saturday.
