Furman's Dillon named player of the week

Junior picked up a straight-set win over ranked player

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Madison Dillon has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 1-7, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Dillon, a junior, won her lone singles match of the week, downing UCF’s Evgeniya Levashova, ranked No. 95 nationally, in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) at No. 3 as 24th-ranked Furman nearly upset the 18th-ranked Knights on the road, falling 4-3 on March 6.
 
Dillon and teammate MaryAnn Rompf fell 2-6 to UCF’s Rebeka Stolmar and Marie Mattel, the sixth-ranked doubles team in the nation, at No. 2.
 
Furman (9-6, 1-0 SoCon) remains in Florida to take on USF this afternoon before squaring off with North Florida on Wednesday, March 10.
 
Also nominated: Yunuen Elizarraras (ETSU), Sophia Adams (UNCG), Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg (Samford), Kata Foldeak (Western Carolina) and Jenna Vroman (Wofford).
