MACON, Ga. – The Mercer men's tennis team lost a hard-fought match to visiting Jacksonville State, 4-3, on Wednesday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
Opening with doubles, the Bears held a 5-3 lead in No. 3 doubles by the team of Samuel Barrow and Michael Durham, however, they did not get to finish as the Gamecocks took No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to win the doubles point.
Mercer tied the match, when David Georgadze won No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-4. However, the Gamecocks took clinched the match by taking the next three single sets.
Mercer came back and won two more single matches. Samuel Barrow dropped set one, 6-2, but bounced back winning set two, 6-3. In the tiebreaker, Barrow won 10-4 and taking the point. The Bears Michael Durham claimed a victory in No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Thomas Norwood.
