SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Ivan Mitric has been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 22-28, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Mitric, a senior, went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-2 at No. 2 doubles on the week as the Paladins lost 5-2 at Clemson on March 22, lost 4-3 at ETSU on March 26 and downed Chattanooga 6-1 on March 28.
 
In singles play, the native of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, started off the week with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Clemson’s Yizhou Liu. Four days later, he downed ETSU’s Dimitri Badra, ranked 72^nd, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 before ending the week with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-4) win over Chattanooga’s Tomas Rodriguez.
 
In doubles play, Mitric and teammate Benjamin Cahill fell 6-1 to Clemson’s top duo and 6-4 to ETSU’s top pair and won 7-5 over Chattanooga’s No. 1 duo.
 
Furman (6-10, 3-1 SoCon) hosts Mercer (8-11, 2-1) on Friday, April 2, and Samford (9-6, 2-0) the following day.
