SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Samford Bulldogs earned a share of the Southern Conference regular-season title and the top seed in the 2020-21 SoCon Volleyball Championship. The tournament, which features just four teams due to the conference’s cost-cutting measures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, will be held April 2-3 at in the Pete Hanna Center on Samford’s campus.
Samford (13-3, 13-3 SoCon), which wins the SoCon regular-season title for the second straight season, will face No. 4 seed Wofford (10-6, 10-6) in the first semifinal match, set for Friday, April 2, at 4 p.m. CT. The Bulldogs, the back-to-back Southern Conference tournament champions, won both matches against Wofford in the regular season.
Mercer, which joined Samford at 13-3 atop the standings (14-7) and also earned a share of the regular-season title, its first in SoCon history, clinched the second seed in the tournament. The Bears will face Western Carolina, the No. 3 seed, in Friday’s second semifinal at 6:30 p.m. CT. The Catamounts (11-7, 11-5) swept both regular-season meetings in Cullowhee, N.C. and enter the tournament riding a league-best six-match win streak.
The tournament culminates at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 3, with the championship match.
The tournament champion will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Volleyball Championship.
