SUNSET, S.C. -- Senior Madison Moosa (+3) finished in a tie for 14th Sunday to lead the Furman women’s golf team in the final day of the Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 6,472 yard The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.
Due to the threat of inclement weather predicted for the Upstate this weekend, teams played 27 holes on Friday and intended to complete the final 27 on Saturday. Weather delayed the final round with just three holes to play, which were completed on Sunday morning.
Moosa, who hails from Charlotte, N.C. carded a 73 with a birdie on No. 5 in the final round, while senior Carly Burkhardt (+9) shot an even 72 with birdies on No. 13 and No. 17 in round three, tying for 48th.
Junior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+11) recorded a 74 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 9 in the final round to finish in a tie for 59th, and freshman Sophia Burnett (+21) carded a final-round 76 with a birdie on No. 13, tying for 84th.
No. 24 Kent State (-12) led the field with a 276 in round three to win the tournament by 10 strokes over 20th-ranked Virginia Tech (-2). No. 21 Maryland (+1) finished third, followed by 30th-ranked Clemson (+3) in fourth. No. 46 Illinois (+7) completed the top five. Playing with a short-handed lineup, the 33rd-ranked Paladins (+44) finished 16th in a loaded field which includes four top-25 teams and 10 top-46 teams.
Caley McGinty (-10) of Kent State, who ranks 41st nationally, won the individual championship by four strokes with rounds of 66-73-67=206.
Furman will compete at the Brickyard Invitational in Macon, Ga., April 5-6.
