Furman's Moosa tied for 11th to pace Paladins at Clemson Invitational

Paladins completed 27 holes Friday, return to course on Saturday

SUNSET, S.C. -- Senior Madison Moosa (+1) tied for 11th to pace the Furman women’s golf team Friday in the opening day of the Clemson Invitational at the par 72, 6,472 yard The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset, S.C.

Due to the threat of inclement weather predicted for the Upstate this weekend, teams played 27 holes on Friday.  

Moosa, a native of Charlotte, N.C., carded a 74 with birdies on No. 2 and No. 18 in the day’s first round, then moved up the leader board after opening the second round with birdies on No. 3 and No. 5.  She sits at 1-under in round two, which is slated to continue Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.  Teams are scheduled to complete the final 27 holes on Saturday but will finish the tournament on Sunday if needed.

Junior Sarah-Eve Rhéaume (+6) is tied for 49th midway through round two.  She recorded a 75 with a birdie on No. 9 in the first round and added a birdie on No. 10 to come in at 3-over at the mid point of the second round.

Senior Carly Burkhardt (+7) sits at 1-under for the second round after posting birdies on No. 7 and No. 9.  She opened the tournament with an 80 with a birdie on No. 7 and is tied for 55th entering Saturday’s play.  Freshman Sophia Burnett (+7) is tied for 69th after scoring a 79 in round one and tallying a 2-over with a birdie on No. 6 in the first half of round two. 

No. 24 Kent State (-4) leads the tournament by four strokes over 21st-ranked Maryland (E).  No. 30 Clemson (+1) sits in third, followed by 20th-ranked Virginia Tech in fourth place.  No. 46 Illinois (+10) rounds out the top five.  The 33rd-ranked Paladins (+23) are in a three-way tie for 13th place with Ohio State (+23) and Notre Dame (+23) in a loaded field which includes four top-25 teams and 10 top-46 teams.

Caley McGinty (-6) of Kent State, who ranks 41st nationally, holds a three-stroke lead over the field after posting an opening-round 66 and shooting even par in the first half of the second round.

Furman will tee off on No. 12 at 9 a.m. on Saturday to conclude the second round.  Live scoring will be available via http://www.golfstat.com.
