Notes:
• ETSU hosts Western Carolina for the Ingles Southern Conference Game of the Week on select Nexstar affiliates this Saturday, while VMI and Chattanooga try to remain undefeated in league play.

• The Bucs and the Catamounts will square off at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Blue Ridge Border Battle. The last two contests between the squads have gone to overtime, with ETSU claiming a 45-43 win in triple overtime in 2018 and Western Carolina returning the favor with a 23-20 win in OT in 2019.

• The Bucs turned three Citadel turnovers into 21 points in last week’s 28-21 win.

• Catamount running back Donnavan Spencer ran for 78 yards in a 45-28 loss at Mercer last weekend, surpassing 2,000 for his career. With 2,039 to his credit, he is just 174 away from entering WCU’s career top 10.

• VMI, enjoying its highest-ever FCS national rankings at No. 13 in the AFCA coaches poll and No. 14 in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25, remains atop the league standings after its 38-37 overtime win at Samford last week. The Keydets, who are 4-0 for the first time since 1981, visit Wofford on Saturday seeking their first win over the Terriers since 2002. Wofford has won eight straight in the series since then, including last season’s high-scoring 51-36 affair.

• Quarterback Reece Udinski became VMI’s career passing leader in the win over Samford, finishing with 353 passing yards on the day to push his total to 7,861 and pass Al Cobb, who had 7,727 from 2014-16. Udinski also moved into the SoCon’s career top 10, jumping in at No. 6.

• Chattanooga enters Saturday’s home game against Mercer 3-0 in SoCon play to sit half a game back of VMI. The Mocs have won their last two games by a combined three points, topping The Citadel 25-24 in overtime on March 6 before downing then-No. 13 Furman 20-18 last weekend. With wins over a pair of nationally ranked opponents in its last three outings, Chattanooga has moved into the top 10 in both national polls, climbing to No. 10 in the AFCA poll and No. 9 in the Stats Perform poll.

• Linebacker Ty Boeck was named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Chattanooga’s win over Furman, in which the Mocs held the Paladins to just 170 yards of total offense, their fewest in the 50-game series. Boeck had eight tackles and a pair of takeaways, grabbing his first career interception and recovering a fumble.

• Mercer rolled to a 45-28 win over Western Carolina last weekend, rushing for a season-high 308 yards. Nakendrick Clark ran for a career-high 92 of them with two touchdowns.

• Samford visits The Citadel on Saturday. The visiting Bulldogs just wrapped a stretch of three straight against ranked opponents, falling in overtime to VMI last weekend and in OT to then-No. 17 Furman on March 6 around a win over then-No. 20 Wofford on March 13. Samford quarterback Liam Welch had a career day against VMI, throwing for a SoCon-record 570 yards and four touchdowns in the loss. His 581 yards of total offense were the second-most in a game in SoCon history.

• The Citadel has lost three straight one-possession games, falling 25-24 in OT to Chattanooga, 21-14 to Western Carolina and 28-21 to ETSU.
