SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Beatriz Barrios has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for all competition from March 17-23. The selection is made by the conference office.
Barrios finished second in a field of 62 players at the Pinetree Women’s Intercollegiate on March 22 and 23. The freshman from Seville, Spain, fell short of first place by only three strokes to Florida State’s Beatrice Wallin, the No. 2 golfer in the nation. She shot 1-under-par 215, which is her best 54-hole score in nine starts, and averaged 71.67 strokes throughout the tournament’s three rounds. She began her run at the Pinetree Intercollegiate with first- and second-round scores of 74 and 73, respectively, before firing a final-round 4-under 68, which is Chattanooga’s best single-round score since Esme Hamilton’s 4-under 66 in 2019 at the Princess Anne Invite.
Barrios defeated No. 11 Charlotte Heath (Florida State) by two strokes, No. 48 Amelia Williamson (Florida State) by seven, No. 23 Tai Anudit (Kennesaw State) by nine and No. 64 Cecilie Finne-Ipsen (Charlotte) by 15. There were also 17 other SoCon golfers in the field, who she beat by an average of 13.1 strokes.
The Mocs will host the Chattanooga Classic on March 29-30 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the Black Creek Club.
