SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNC Greensboro’s Maycin Brown and ETSU’s Kelly Schmidt have been named the Southern Conference softball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for games played March 15-21, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Brown hit .615 with eight hits, six RBIs and six runs scored as UNCG went 3-1 against Elon on the weekend. The sophomore began the weekend series by going 3-for-3 with a double, a pair of RBIs and pair of runs scored as the Spartans won 11-3 in a six-inning home contest. Later that afternoon, the Summerville, South Carolina, native went 3-for-4 with another double, an RBI and a pair of runs scored as UNCG fell 6-4. She scored a run and drew two walks in the first meeting on Sunday, a 15-7 UNCG win, and capped off the weekend with a 2-for-4 outing at the plate, adding three RBIs, a home run and a run scored in a 9-6 Spartans’ victory.
 
Schmidt, a redshirt senior, repeats as SoCon Pitcher of the Week after tossing two complete games and earning two wins as ETSU went 3-1 on the week. She boasted a 0.58 ERA, giving up just one earned run in 12 innings pitched and amassing 11 strikeouts to just four walks. The native of Norcross, Georgia, began the week by allowing one earned run on six hits, propelling ETSU to a 9-1 six-inning win over Radford. On Sunday afternoon, Schmidt tossed a six-inning shutout, punching out seven batters and giving up just two hits as the Bucs’ earned an 8-0 win over N.C. Central.
 
ETSU (10-6) hosts USC Upstate on Wednesday, March 24, and begins Southern Conference play at UNCG this weekend, while UNCG (13-6) plays at Radford on Wednesday before welcoming the Bucs to UNCG Softball Stadium for a weekend tilt.
