Samford's Janse Van Rensburg named women's tennis player of the week

Bulldogs' junior won her lone singles and doubles matches of the week, playing at No. 1

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 15-21, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Janse Van Rensburg, a junior, won her lone singles and doubles matches of the week, playing at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Bulldogs, who earned a 6-1 win over UNCG in the squad’s opener on March 19.
 
The native of Franschhoek, South Africa, downed UNCG’s Sophia Adams, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 and combined with teammate Alexis Lopez to earn a 7-5 win in doubles.
 
Samford (10-7, 1-0 SoCon) hosts ETSU (7-8, 1-0) on Friday, March 26, and travels to face Mercer (5-5, 0-2) on Sunday, March 28.
 
Also nominated: MaryAnn Rompf (Furman), Maeva Roquebert (Mercer), Hanna Giddings (UNCG), Emma Van Hee (Chattanooga) and Antonella Benavides (Western Carolina).
