SPARTANBURG, S.C. – ETSU’s Frazier Rengifo been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played March 8-14, the conference office announced Monday.
Rengifo, a senior, went 3-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles on the week as the Bucs beat Radford (4-3), Wofford (7-0) and Charlotte (5-2).
In singles play, the native of Cali, Colombia, started off the week with a 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4) win against Radford’s Demis Taramonlis on March 9, clinching the win for ETSU. On March 12, Rengifo earned a 6-3, 6-2 conference win against Wofford’s Callum Rendle, again giving ETSU the win, before closing out the week two days later with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 win against Charlotte’s Henry Lieberman.
In doubles play, Rengifo and teammate Juan Lugo picked up a 6-2 win against Radford’s top duo, beat Wofford’s top pair 6-3, and swept Charlotte’s duo 6-0.
ETSU (4-5, 2-0 SoCon) plays at Georgia State on Friday, March 19, and at Mercer on Saturday, March 20.
