Notes:
• Four Southern Conference games are on the Saturday slate, with league-leading VMI hosting Mercer for the Ingles SoCon Game of the Week on select Nexstar affiliates.

• The 2-0 Keydets own wins over then-No. 10 Furman and Western Carolina this spring and are the first team out of the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. VMI snapped a 17-game losing streak to the Catamounts last Saturday, carrying a shutout into the fourth quarter in a 30-7 win. Korey Bridy ran for 91 yards and two touchdowns and Jerry Rice kicked a trio of field goals in the win.

• Mercer, which has won four straight over VMI, was idle last weekend. The Bears are coming off a 42-28 win over The Citadel on Feb. 27 in which they carried a 28-0 lead into the half and saw freshman quarterback Carter Peevy go 10-for-17 for 208 yards and three TDs. After the Bulldogs made it a one-possession game with 2:11 left in the contest, Ethan Dirrim returned a kickoff for a touchdown just six seconds later to cement the win. The win was the first of the Drew Cronic era.

• On Saturday, No. 15 Furman visits ETSU, a team it has beaten six times in the last seven meetings. The Paladins turned in the biggest rally in Paladin Stadium history last weekend, overcoming a 17-point second-quarter deficit to down Samford 44-37 on Saturday. QB Hamp Sisson threw two fourth-quarter TDs, including a 73-yard strike to Ryan Miller that tied it late, and Devin Wynn scored on a 9-yard run in OT as the Paladins rebounded from their first loss of the season.

• ETSU was idle the last two weeks after its scheduled bye week on Feb. 27 and its March 6 game against Wofford was postponed. The Bucs also enter the game against Furman coming off a win over Samford, as ETSU opened its season with a 24-17 win on Feb. 20. The Bucs are receiving votes in the Stats Perform FCS Top 25. Running back Quay Holmes and linebacker Donovan Manuel earned SoCon Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week presented by GEICO honors, respectively, after that contest. Holmes ran for 125 yards and two scores and Manuel had nine tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble.

• Samford hosts No. 20 Wofford, whose game against ETSU last week was postponed. The Bulldogs, who have won five straight over Wofford, suffered a 44-37 loss to then-No. 17 Furman on Saturday, getting Montrell Washington’s 55-yard punt return for a TD and three field goals from Mitchell Fineran, who connected from 50, 22 and 46 yards. Chris Edmonds had two interceptions on the day, returning one 45 yards for a score, en route to being named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week presented by GEICO.

• The Terriers sit 1-1 after opening the spring slate with a 31-14 win over Mercer before falling 24-13 at Chattanooga, which jumped into the national rankings after the win. Wofford QB Jimmy Weirick is 20-for-33 for 224 yards in his first two starts this season.

• Western Carolina hosts The Citadel today in a battle of 0-6 squads. The Catamounts played a trio of fall contests, including at FBS squads No. 22 Liberty and North Carolina. The Citadel faced three FBS foes among its four fall opponents, including No. 1 Clemson. Both WCU and The Citadel fell to FCS Eastern Kentucky in the fall. The Bulldogs, who have won four of five against Western Carolina, dropped a 25-24 contest to then-No. 18 Chattanooga in overtime last week, their third straight one-point loss to the Mocs.
