Wofford's Williams named men's tennis player of the week

Senior went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford’s Omar Williams been named the Southern Conference men’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 22-28, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Williams, a senior, went 3-0 at No. 1 singles and 3-0 at No. 1 doubles as the Terriers swept North Greenville in midweek nonconference play, downed The Citadel 7-0 to move to 1-0 in conference play and ended the week with a narrow 4-3 win over UNC Asheville.
 
In singles play, the native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, won 6-1, 5-7, 10-2 in a hard-fought win over North Greenville’s Alex Kotska, beat The Citadel’s Will Graham 6-0, 6-4, and bested UNC Asheville’s Oli Nolan 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 to cap off the week.
 
In doubles play, Williams and partner Bryce Keim won 7-6 against North Greenville’s top duo, collected a 6-3 win against The Citadel’s No. 1 pair and swept the top pair from UNC Asheville 6-0.
 
Wofford (4-3, 1-0 SoCon) hosts SoCon foe Mercer on Saturday, March 6, and plays at Davidson on Sunday, March 7. 
 
Also nominated: Frazier Rengifo (ETSU), Ivan Mitric (Furman), Samuel MacLeod (Mercer), Rossouw Norval (Samford) and Turner Voges (Chattanooga).
