Each conference will have a three-minute segment in the one-hour special, which will also feature national correspondents from HERO Sports and STATS Perform.
Notably, more than 90 of 114 playoff-eligible teams are planning to participate this spring, with the season culminating with a 16-team NCAA Division I Football Championship, beginning with first-round games the weekend of April 23-25.
The Southern Conference spring slate kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 20. All nine league teams will be participating in the spring season.
Furman and three-time defending SoCon champion Wofford are the favorites in the league’s preseason media and coaches polls, respectively. Furman is ranked No. 8 in the HERO Sports preseason poll and No. 16 in the Athlon Sports preseason poll, while Wofford is ranked No. 23 and No. 20 in those polls, respectively. The Citadel is ranked No. 19 and Chattanooga is No. 24 in the HERO Sports poll.
North Dakota State, which has won an FCS-record 38 straight games and eight of the last nine national championships, will be the preseason No. 1 ranked team of the spring.
The 16-team playoff will culminate with the title game in Frisco, Texas, on Sunday, May 16, and all 15 games in the tournament will be carried on an ESPN network. Frisco is hosting the FCS Championship game for the 11th straight year, and the title game will be played there through at least 2025. The FCS Championship (then I-AA) started in 1978, as a four-team field, and it’s now in its 43rd year and will be played in the spring for the first time.
More than 200 former FCS players dotted NFL opening day rosters, and 18 former FCS players were represented on the rosters of this year's Super Bowl teams, including Daniel Kilgore of the Kansas City Chiefs, who played in the SoCon at App State from 2007-10.
