SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Chattanooga’s Abbey Cornelius has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Feb. 17-23, receiving the honor for the second time this season. The selection is made by the conference office.
Cornelius posted a pair of double-doubles in the Mocs’ two games against UNCG last week. On Friday, she scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds, with two blocked shots and three assists in Chattanooga’s 57-41 win over the Spartans. The junior went on to score a team-best 17 points and made a career-high seven free throws on Sunday. During that game she racked up 16 rebounds, which is only two rebounds short of her career-best 18 that was set earlier in the season. Cornelius leads the team in rebounding this season and ranks fifth all-time in program history with 90 career blocked shots.
The Knoxville, Tennessee, junior holds a 3.96 grade point average and is majoring in exercise science.
Chattanooga (13-9, 8-5 SoCon) travels to ETSU on Feb. 25 for its final regular-season game of the 2020-21 season, before the Ingles SoCon Basketball Championship presented by General Shale begins on March 4 in Asheville, North Carolina.
