SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its volleyball players of the week Tuesday for games played Feb. 16-22. Wofford middle blocker Riley Coonan was named the Offensive Player of the Week and the Terriers’ Emily Hodsdon was named Setter of the Week, while Chattanooga libero Paige Gallentine was named the Defensive Player of the Week. The players of the week are selected by the league office.

Coonan hit .475 and averaged 3.71 kills per set as the Terriers won a pair of home matches against previously undefeated ETSU. In the first match, a 3-1 win on Feb. 21, Coonan led Wofford with a match-high and season-high 17 kills on 29 swings, hitting .345 in the contest. The following day, the Jacksonville, Florida, native tallied nine kills on just 11 swings, hitting .818 with no errors in Wofford’s sweep of the Bucs, capping off the first series sweep over ETSU in program history.

Hodsdon, a freshman, averaged 12.57 assists per set in the pair of Wofford victories. The native of Alpharetta, Georgia, had a match-high 49 assists, tying a season and career high, in the 3-1 win over the Bucs on Feb. 21. She added seven digs and an ace. In game two of the series, she dished out a match-high 39 assists and added a career-high four service aces in the 3-0 win.

Gallentine averaged 7.0 digs per set as the Mocs split a pair of matches against Furman. In Sunday’s contest, a 3-1 Furman win, Gallentine recorded a match-high 26 digs and added two assists and a service ace. The next day, the freshman from Fenton, Michigan, again led all players, tallying 23 digs as the Mocs swept the Paladins to even the series.

Wofford (4-2, 4-2 SoCon) plays at Western Carolina (3-5, 3-3) on Wednesday, Feb. 24, before welcoming The Citadel (3-8, 1-5) for a pair of contests on Feb. 28 and March 1. Chattanooga (5-5, 3-5) hosts Mercer (6-5, 5-1) on Feb. 28 and March 1.

Also nominated for defensive player of the week: Neci Harris (Furman), Mandy Garvens (UNCG), Emily Naubert (Samford) and Abbey Richman (Wofford).

Also nominated for setter of the week: Katie Murphy (Furman) and Corinne Meglic (Samford).
