Samford's Janse Van Rensburg named women's tennis player of the week

Junior went 2-0 in both singles and doubles, all in top spot

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg has been named the Southern Conference women’s tennis player of the week for all matches played Feb. 15-21, the conference office announced Monday.
 
Janse Van Rensburg, a junior, went 2-0 at No. 1 in singles play and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles as Samford swept Nicholls State on Feb. 19 and downed South Alabama, 6-1, a day later.
 
In singles play, the native of Franschhoek, South Africa, made quick work of Nicholls State’ Simona Maksimovic, cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win. The next day, she downed South Alabama’s Yu Fujikova 6-1, 4-6, 7-5.
 
In doubles play, Janse Van Rensburg and teammate Alexis Lopez beat Nicholls State’s top duo, 6-0, and won 6-2 against the top pair from South Alabama the following day.
 
Samford (4-4) hosts UAB on Wednesday, Feb. 24, and Murray State on Saturday, Feb. 27.
