SoCon trio earns preseason All-America honors

Richmond's Menges on third team, HPU's Nolting and UR's Reynolds claim honorable mention

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Richmond graduate long stick midfielder Sean Menges earned third-team Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-America honors Tuesday, while High Point senior attack Asher Nolting and Richmond senior defender Jason Reynolds earned honorable mention.
 
Richmond’s Menges is one of just five long-stick midfielders on the preseason teams. He was named preseason All-SoCon last week after playing in all seven games for the Spiders in the shortened 2020 season. Last year, he earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week honors on the first week of the season after forcing a career-high six turnovers against No. 4 Maryland.
 
Menges was named first-team All-SoCon in 2019, the first postseason accolades of his career. The long-stick midfielder led the team with 45 ground balls and caused a team-high 30 turnovers. He recorded a career-high six grounds balls in the Spiders' NCAA tournament contest at No. 3 Duke. He earned SoCon All-Tournament accolades for his play in the Spiders' clinching game against High Point, grabbing five ground balls. He caused a career-high five turnovers against No. 6 Duke (March 1) during the regular season. He was named the SoCon Defensive Player of the Week after the Spiders' wins over UMBC and No. 6 Notre Dame.
 
High Point’s Nolting Nolting was named to the Tewaaraton Award Watch list in 2020 for the second season in a row. Nolting started all eight of the Panthers' contests during the shortened season a year ago. He led the team with 22 assists while also adding 11 goals and five ground balls. Nolting Had multi-point games in every contest in 2020.
 
The Greenwood Village, Colorado, native, a two-time SoCon Offensive Player of the Year is the SoCon’s career leader in points per game (5.03), assists (106) and assists per game (2.79) and paced the league with 2.75 assists per game last year and was third in scoring at 4.12 points per game. He enters his senior campaign just 35 points shy of the SoCon record of 226.
 
Richmond’s Reynolds earns his preseason honors after being named honorable mention All-America in the shortened 2020 season. Last week, he was named preseason All-SoCon for the second straight year as the defensive anchor for the Spiders. He has started 39 games in his career, including all five games in which he played last season in the shortened year. He posted six ground balls and forced four turnovers in his five games.
 
Reynolds earned both first-team All-SoCon and SoCon All-Tournament accolades in 2019. The two-time all-conference recipient started all 14 games on defense for the Spiders, anchoring the back end and finishing second on the lead with 44 ground balls. Reynolds recorded nine games with two or more ground balls and posted a season-high five against Bucknell and Furman.
