SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford claimed three of the four Southern Conference indoor track and field athlete of the week awards for the second straight week Wednesday, with José Peñalver and Justin Stuckey taking men’s track and field honors, respectively, for the second straight week and Hannah Daffin claiming women’s field honors. Furman’s Madelynne Cadeau was named the women’s track athlete of the week, becoming the third different Paladin to win the award in four weeks.
Selections were made by panels of the league’s track and field coaches and included all competition from Feb. 10-16.

The following day at the Samford Open, also at the Birmingham Crossplex, the junior from Helena, Alabama, finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 6.91 meters (22 feet, 8 inches).
Furman’s Cadeau placed seventh in the 5,000-meter run at the Music City Challenge in Nashville, Tennessee, on Friday. The Cumming, Georgia, native was the top freshman finisher in the event, turning in a time of 16:29.07, which leads the SoCon this season and is a Furman freshman record. Her effort also ranks 36th on the NCAA performance list.
