SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Citadel’s Michael McAleavey has been named the Southern Conference Wrestler of the Week for all competition from Dec. 1-7. The selection is made by the league office.

McAleavey went 4-2 and clinched one ranked win to secure a seventh-place finish at the Cliff Keen Invitational last week in Las Vegas, Nevada. In the first day of the event, the graduate heavyweight fell to Northwestern’s No. 10 Lucas Davison in a 6-2 decision and picked up wins over Sam Aguilar of Cal Poly and Daniel Conley of Columbia before earning his ranked victory over Wyoming’s No. 8 Brian Andrews the following day, leading 3-0 when Andrews was forced to forfeit with injury. He then faced his third ranked opponent, falling to South Dakota State No. 25 AJ Nevills in a 10-3 decision before closing out the final day of action with a win by forfeit over Binghamton’s Joe Doyle. The Venetia, Pennsylvania, native becomes the first Bulldog to place at the Cliff Keen Invitational since Matt Frisch (149) placed sixth in 2014.

The Citadel (2-0, 0-0 SoCon) travels to Durham, North Carolina, for a tri-meet at Duke on Sunday, Dec. 19, with the Bulldogs facing both the Blue Devils and Bloomsburg University.
