BOONE, N.C. – The Wofford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams began the season on Friday and Saturday at the Appalachian Invite hosted at the Holmes Convocation Center. Tanner Henry won the men's high jump and Theron Bradford won the 400-meter run. Kerrington Johnson led a Wofford sweep of the top three places in the 55-meter hurdles and the women's 4x300-meter relay was first.
 
In Friday's field events, Jenna Reid was fifth in the weight throw at 14.58 meters and Christopher Sheppard was third in the triple jump at 13.32 meters.
 
The track events began on Saturday morning for the Terriers. In the women's 55-meter hurdles, Kerrington Johnson was first in 8.28, followed by Netanya Linares (8.32) and Destiny Shippy (8.37) to take the top three spots. Marga Van Der Linde was seventh at 8.73. Madeline McNinch was eighth in the finals of the 55 meters at 7.29. In the mile, Mary Claire Ridgeway was fourth at 5:30.40 and Chloe Gilbert was fifth in 5:47.03. Kimber Keene was fourth in the 800 meters at 2:37.04. In the 300 meters, Georgia McDevitt was fourth at 41.04 and Jasmine Jefferson fifth in 41.68. Katharine Spence was sixth in the 3,000 meters in 12:08.44. The 4x300 relay team of Dahlia Cutler, Jasmine Jefferson, Madeline McNinch and Georgia McDevitt took first place in 2:47.45, while the second team in the event was fifth.
 
For the men in the Saturday track events, Grant Witherspoon was fourth in the 55-meter hurdle finals at 8.17. In the 400 meters, Theron Bradford was first with a personal best of 50.12 and Elijah Bull was second in 50.98. Ahmad Miles took ninth place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:08.09. In the 300 meters, Conor Murphy was eighth at 35.79, with Cameron Dalton 12th at 36.42. The 4x300 relay team of Elijah Bull, Conor Murphy, Jackson Casey and Theron Bradford was fourth in 2:26.25, while the second entered team was ninth.
 
In the field events on Saturday, Jenna Reid was 10th in the shot put with a personal best of 11.25 meters and Deylon Harkey also had a personal best at 8.81 meters. In the long jump, Madeline McNinch was third at 5.81 meters for a personal best and Rylee Jorgensen was eighth at 5.30 meters. McNinch added a third place in the long jump at 5.81 meters, with Jorgensen at 5.30 meters for eighth place. Netanya Linares was fifth in the pole vault, clearing 3.21 meters. Paul Szuba had a throw of 9.43 meters in the shot put. Tanner Henry was first in the high jump at 1.98 meters, with Ben Kendall third at 1.88 meters. In the long jump, Christopher Sheppard was second at 6.41 meters and Ben Kendall was sixth at 6.02 meters. Henry added a third place in the pole vault at 4.43 meters, which set a new school record.
 
The meet featured nine schools, including the College of Charleston, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville and Winthrop. 
          
After exams and the semester break, the Terriers will be back in action on Jan. 14-15 at the ETSU Track and Field Invitational.
