Samford’s Ngulefac named SoCon Player of the Week

Freshman center scored 18 points, pulled down eight rebounds and shot 58.3 percent in lone contest of week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford’s Sussy Ngulefac has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Dec. 21-27 after scoring a season-high 18 points, pulling down a career-high eight rebounds and shooting 58.3 percent from the floor in an 83-47 loss at No. 19 LSU on Monday evening. The award is selected by the league office.

In addition to being personal bests, the freshman center’s scoring and rebounding output were both team highs. The native of Lilburn, Georgia, went 7-for-12 from the floor and added four points from the free-throw line. She added one assist, one block and one steal in the setback. Ngulefac is the first freshman to garner player of the week honors this season and the first since Furman’s Tate Walters was honored on Dec. 8, 2020.

Samford (4-9) plays at North Alabama on Thursday, Dec. 30, in the Bulldogs’ nonconference finale before hosting Chattanooga (2-12) on Jan. 6 in the conference opener for both squads.

Also nominated: Jakhyia Davis (ETSU) and Amaria Pugh (Chattanooga).
