SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Samford guard Ques Glover has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for all contests from Dec. 20-26 after scoring 21 points and pulling down five rebounds in a win at Mississippi. The award is selected by the league office.
Glover, who was also named the Lou Henson National Player of the Week for his performance, shot 50 percent from the floor (7-for-14) and from 3-point range (3-for-6) in leading the Bulldogs past Ole Miss on Tuesday, 75-73. The sophomore from Knoxville, Tennessee, also hit all four of his free-throw attempts and had two assists against just one turnover in 33 minutes. Ole Miss entered the game with an 8-3 record and is currently ranked in the top 150 of the NET rankings.
The win was Samford’s first over a Southeastern Conference opponent since 2010 and its second over a Power 5 conference opponent this season (Oregon State, Nov. 18). Capped by ETSU’s win at Georgia on Wednesday, the Southern Conference posted six wins over Power 5 opponents this season, its most since notching six in 2012-13.
Samford, which boasts a league-best 10-2 mark after nonconference play, opens SoCon action at Furman (8-5, 0-0 SoCon) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET. Three other league games are on the slate for that day, followed by ETSU at Chattanooga on ESPNU on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Other nominees: Hayden Brown (The Citadel), David Sloan (ETSU), Mike Bothwell (Furman), Jacksen Greco (Mercer), David Jean-Baptiste (Chattanooga) and Nicholas Robinson (Western Carolina).
