AUSTIN, Texas – For the ninth consecutive year a Belmont University student-athlete has been named Academic All-America® by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Men's soccer graduate student JP Armbruster has been chosen Third Team Academic All-America® by CoSIDA for his exceptional work in the classroom and dedication on the pitch.
A local product and former Father Ryan High School star, Armbruster achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average while receiving his bachelor's degree in accounting. Balancing his studies as a first-semester graduate student working toward his Master of Accountancy, Armbruster served as one of two team captains on the most successful Bruin men's soccer team to date this fall. Playing a significant role in the midfield, Armbruster helped lead Belmont to a program-best 13 wins and a second consecutive Southern Conference Championship title match appearance.
Making eight starts and appearing in 18 of the Bruins' 19 matches in 2021, Armbruster was key in Belmont's elite defense that ranked among national leaders. The Midfielder logged a trio of shots and recorded his second career assist in the Bruins' 5-0 rout at Virginia Military Institute on Oct. 2.
A two-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll member and two-time SoCon Commissioner's Medal recipient, Armbruster was named Academic All-SoCon over the summer following the unique 2020-21 spring season. In September, Armbruster was selected as the Public Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) Scholar for the 2021-22 academic year. The PCAOB is a nonprofit corporation that oversees auditors of issuers and broker-dealers.
Armbruster is one of just four NCAA Division I men's soccer student-athletes on the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams holding an unblemished 4.0 undergraduate GPA. He becomes only the second Belmont men's soccer player to earn Academic All-America® status, joining Marcos Cabrera (2001 and 2002).
