SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Furman’s Tate Walters has been named the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week presented by GEICO for games played Nov. 23-29 after averaging 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game as the Paladins split a pair of contests in the Raising The B.A.R. Invitational hosted by Cal. The award is selected by the league office.
Walters, a sophomore guard, scored 15 points, pulled down five rebounds, dished out four assists and added four steals in 34 minutes played in an 82-73 loss at Cal on Friday. In the consolation game on Saturday, the native of Buford, Georgia, led all players with 24 points in a 71-62 win over San Diego State. Walters shot 50 percent from the floor (7-of-14) and 60 percent from 3-point range (6-of-10) and added seven rebounds, four assists, one block and one steal in the win.
Furman (5-2) plays at Radford on Wednesday, Dec. 1, before returning to Timmons Arena to host Stetson on Saturday, Dec. 4.
