SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer women’s golfer Carol Pyon has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Nov. 3-9. The selection is made by the conference office.
 
Pyon helped lead the Bears to their victory at the Mercer Invitational on Monday and Tuesday, posting a 2-over-par 218 performance to finish third behind Charleston Southern’s Caroline Englebredt and teammate Tracy Rodriguez. The Macon, Georgia, native carded a 78 (+6) with two birdies in the first round, a 72 (E) with three birdies in the second round, and a 68 (-4) with five birdies in the final round, including three birdies in a row. Pyron’s third-place finish in the 66-golfer field is her best finish this season and her second top-10 finish, with the Mercer golfer earning a seventh-place finish at the White Sands Beach Invitational in Nassau, Bahamas, on Oct. 22-24.

The senior maintains a 3.54 grade point average and is pursuing a degree in marketing.
 
The Bears concluded fall action and will open the spring season on Feb. 18 at the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational in Greensboro, Georgia.
