SPARTANBURG, S.C. – UNCG’s Tara Bettle and Chattanooga’s Dorota Zalewska have been named the Southern Conference Women’s Golfers of the Week for all competition from Sept. 29-Oct. 5. The selection is made by the conference office.  

Bettle and Zalewska both shot a 4-under-par 206 to tie for third at the Evie Odom Invite in Virginia Beach, Virginia, at the Princess Anne Country Club from Oct. 3-5. They averaged 68.67 strokes through three rounds on the par-70 course.  

Bettle, a graduate student from Berlin, Germany, broke the course and tournament 18-hole low record with a 7-under-par 63 in Tuesday’s final round, which was an 11-stroke improvement from Sunday's opening-round 74. During the second round on Monday, she carded a 1-under-par 69 with birdies on No. 5 and No. 8. She fired a total of 12 birdies throughout the tournament and saw seven in the last round. Her 12 birdies were the second-most in the field of 75 players.  

This marks Bettle’s first-ever weekly honor. 

Zalewska earns her second golfer of the week honor of the season with a career-low 206, which is just one stroke shy of Chattanooga’s 54-hole record set by Emily McLennan in 2015. She opened the tournament with a 2-under-par 68 and fired a 3-under-par 67 on Monday, setting a personal-best 18-hole score and 36-hole school record (135). The Szczecin, Poland, native led the tournament with 14 birdies and earned her second top-three performance of the season.  

UNCG and Chattanooga will return to the golf course when they compete at College of Charleston’s Palmetto Intercollegiate at Kiawah Island Resort in Kiawah Island, South Carolina, on Oct. 25-26.
