SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Wofford football player Atkins Roberts has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all competition from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5. The selection is made by the conference office.
Roberts punted seven times for an average of 38.9 yards in the Terriers’ 27-21 loss to No. 13 ETSU on Saturday, with four of his punts fair-caught and three coming down inside the 20-yard line. In the second quarter, his 42-yard punt was downed at the 16-yard line and Wofford intercepted the ball two plays later, leading to a touchdown during the Terriers’ offensive possession. The sophomore kicker’s first punt of the fourth quarter was downed at the ETSU 2-yard line, while his second punt of the quarter, a 54-yarder, was downed at the 6. Roberts also kicked off four times for an average of 60.5 yards, recording two tackles on returns. This marks the third accolade for Roberts this week, as the Mountain Brook, Alabama, native was also tabbed the SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week and named Stats Perform FCS National Special Teams Player of the Week.
Roberts, who was selected to the 2020-21 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll, maintains a 3.78 grade point average and is currently undecided on his major.
The Terriers (1-3, 0-2 SoCon) return to Gibbs Stadium to host Furman (2-2, 0-1 SoCon) at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
