GREENVILLE, S.C. - Furman seniors Julia Adams and Madison Dillon will begin play Wednesday at the ITA All-American Championships by LTP, which will feature the country’s top NCAA Division I players. The event, which is being held at the LTP facilities in Charleston, S.C., opened Monday with pre-qualifying draws and concludes with the singles main draw and doubles finals on Sunday.
Draws for the main singles and doubles draws will be available Tuesday afternoon.
Adams, who hails from Knoxville, Tenn., is one of 21 players to qualify in the main singles draw. The 2019 SoCon Freshman of the Year, Adams, who is ranked 104th in the ITA preseason rankings, garnered All-SoCon first team honors for singles in 2021. She played at flights one and two, ranking as high as 77th and recording an 19-6 overall mark and 5-1 record against SoCon foes. Adams went 9-0 in singles in February to earn SoCon Player of the Month accolades. Sixteen of her singles victories came in straight sets, including a 6-0, 6-3 win over South Carolina’s Megan Davies, who was ranked 30th nationally.
Adams and Dillon, who rank 26th in the ITA preseason rankings, are one of 28 teams to qualify in the main doubles draw. Adams went 22-4 in doubles last season and ranked as high as 16th nationally, while Dillon, a native of Hilton Head, S.C., was 21-14 with a national ranking of 48th. Adams reached the round of 16 at the NCAA Championships, claiming the Paladins first victory in the NCAA doubles championship.
“We are honored to represent Furman and the Southern Conference in this prestigious event,” said Furman head coach Adam Herendeen. “Julia and Madison have worked hard to earn this opportunity to compete in the main draw at All American’s, and we are excited to get to Charleston and get started tomorrow!”
