GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men’s soccer team has forcibly leaped into the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll.

The Spartans are ranked 19th in the latest poll released Tuesday afternoon.

It’s UNCG’s first appearance in the United Soccer Coaches national poll this season. With this news, the Spartans are nationally ranked in both major NCAA Division I soccer polls.

UNCG was receiving votes last week. The Spartans also continued climbing in the South Region rankings. They are fourth after moving a spot from last week.

UNCG enjoyed another strong week in which it beat Coastal Carolina, 1-0, in overtime on the road and Mercer, 3-0, this past Saturday. The Spartans are rolling. They have a five-match winning streak and a seven-game unbeaten streak heading into this week’s road contest against Furman.

“It’s exciting to be ranked amongst the best programs in the country,” UNCG head coach Chris Rich said. “Our group deserves this, so I am happy to see them recognized. As exciting as this is, it’s important that we stay grounded and continue to stay committed to our process. We have a big conference game this weekend at Furman so we need to stay focused on our preparation.”

With an 8-2-1 overall record, the Spartans have outscored opponents, 25-1, during their seven-match unbeaten streak. UNCG has scored 21 goals in its last four Saturday matches.

They lead the nation in goals scored (32) and points (94). The Spartans are second in the country in goal differential (24), scoring offense (2.91), and assists (30). UNCG is also third in the NCAA in points per game (8.55) and fifth in assists per game (2.73) and shutout percentage (.636).

Sophomore Theo Collomb is second in the NCAA in goals (11), points (25), and points per game (2.50). He is third in the country in goals per game (1.10).

As a program, 13 different Spartans have scored goals this season. In last Saturday’s win over Mercer, Theo Quartey became the third UNCG player to score at least two goals in a game this season.
