LEXINGTON, Va. – Competing at home for the first time this season, the VMI rifle teams fell to visiting TCU Sunday morning at Kilbourne Hall.
 
TCU took first with 4722 (2349 SB, 2373 AR) aggregate points followed by the VMI mixed team with 4501 points (2210 SB, 2291 AR). The VMI women's team earned 4392 points for third place (2132 SB, 2260 AR).
 
Jessica Hankin led the mixed team in the smallbore with a ninth-place mark of 588 points and was trailed by Samantha Read's 10th-place mark of 555. Stephen Garnder (11th, 553) and Kolton Dobson (12th, 548) also scored team points. Simon Krauthamer and Savanah Diamond also competed in the event for the mixed team.
 
Hankin also led the mixed team in the air rifle category with an eighth-place mark of 578 points while Reid also shot a 578. Diamond arrived in 12th place with a 570 and Krauthamer also scored team points in the air rifle with a 13th-place finish of 565. Christopher Hicks also shot for the mixed team.
 
Katie Grochalski led the women's squad in the smallbore with a 14th-place mark of 542 while Cassidy Dufour shot a 539 for 15th place. Claire Lee (16th, 531) and Victoria Phillips (17th, 520) also scored team points for the event. Maxine Gray-Barth also competed and finished with 515 smallbore points.
 
Grochalski also led the women in the air rifle with an 11th-place finish with 573 points while Dufour arrived in 14th with a 564. Gray-Barth logged a 562 for 16th place and Lee placed 17th overall with 561 for points toward the team total. Phillips registered a 542 for 18th place overall.
 
The Keydets return to rifle action Saturday, October 16, hosting North Georgia at 8 a.m. at Kilbourne Hall.
