SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference named its Football Player of the Week awards presented by GEICO on Monday for all games played Oct. 16. Chattanooga claimed a pair of awards after its upset of No. 10 ETSU, with running back Tyrell Price being named the Offensive Player of the Week and defensive end Devonnsha Maxwell being tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week. Samford placekicker Zach Williams is the SoCon Special Teams Player of the Week. The awards are selected by the league office.
 
 
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Tyrell Price, Sr., RB, Chattanooga, Abbeville, Miss.
Chattanooga running back Tyrell Price turned in his second straight two-touchdown game, scoring on 8- and 58-yard runs in the Mocs’ 21-16 win over then-No. 10 ETSU, with his second score ultimately proving the game-winner. The senior from Abbeville, Mississippi, had 14 carries for 102 yards for his fifth career game surpassing the century mark. Price added three receptions for 39 yards to bring his afternoon total to a career-high 141 all-purpose yards. He averaged 7.3 yards per carry and 8.3 yards per touch on the day.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Devonnsha Maxwell, Jr., DE, Chattanooga, Valdosta, Ga.
Chattanooga defensive end Devonnsha Maxwell earned his second SoCon honor of the season thanks to a record-setting day in the Mocs’ win over No. 10 ETSU. The junior from Valdosta, Georgia, recorded a school-record five sacks for 27 yards among his seven tackles on the afternoon, shattering the program record of 3.5, which has stood since 2001 and which Maxwell matched earlier this season. Four of his sacks came in the fourth quarter, helping Chattanooga hang on to its lead in the upset. Maxwell forced a fumble on his first sack of the day, which the Mocs recovered and eventually cashed in for their first touchdown of the afternoon. Maxwell’s five sacks tie for fourth in a game in SoCon history and came against an offensive line that had allowed just four in six games leading up to the contest. Maxwell was also named the Stats Perform FCS National Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Zach Williams, Jr., PK, Samford, Louisville, Ky.
Samford placekicker Zach Williams had nine points in the Bulldogs’ 27-24 win at Wofford on Saturday, connecting on a pair of field goals and all three of his extra-point attempts. The junior from Louisville, Kentucky, came up with his biggest kick of the day with the game on the line, converting a 38-yard field-attempt with just 1:38 to play to put Samford ahead for good. Williams also hit a 30-yard field goal with 8:01 remaining in the first half.>
