The Southern Conference has released the following statement on behalf of the Southern Conference Racial Equity and Justice Task Force:
 
The Southern Conference is deeply saddened by and does not condone the violence that took place yesterday at the U.S. Capitol and the incident that occurred at one of our institutions. We support our member institution’s swift action and commitment to upholding an inclusive environment. The league publicly reaffirms its beliefs that democracy, unity and respect are of the utmost importance, and that violence, racism and prejudice cannot be tolerated or condoned. The league holds itself and its member institutions accountable to the highest standards as it supports the outstanding student-athletes, coaches and administrators who comprise the conference.
